$34,000 settlement for client for emotional distress. Client received no physical injuries and no medical treatment or counseling, however, we were able to recover $34,000 for her at mediation. Client and her husband were awakened in the night to a loud crash into their mobile home. An impaired driver had rammed his truck into their home with his truck in reverse and in gear with the truck tires spinning very fast. The tires quickly wore down to the rims and the spinning wheel rims started spitting out sparks that lit the home on fire. Very quickly the truck exploded and the entire house was in flames. Several vehicles and a gas tank on the property ultimately caught on fire and exploded. The home was destroyed. Client was trapped in her fenced backyard thinking she was going to die until police were able to save her.
